Project Title: Healing Spaces: Pediatric Hospital Room Transformations
\nProject Description:<\/p>\n
Once Upon a Room Charleston provides personalized hospital room transformations for children and teens facing cancer, serious illnesses, and extended hospital stays at MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children\u2019s Hospital. Working closely with Child Life staff, our volunteers learn each child\u2019s interests, favorite colors, hobbies, characters, and themes and create an individualized room designed to bring comfort, joy, and a sense of home to the hospital environment.<\/p>\n
A $10,000 grant will directly fund approximately 14 complete room transformations, based on an average cost of approximately $700 per room. Funding will be used to purchase new bedding, blankets, pillows, lighting, wall d\u00e9cor, storage, personalized items, toys, games, and other age-appropriate comfort items. All items provided during a transformation are gifted to the child and family.<\/p>\n
Once Upon a Room Charleston is community funded and volunteer driven, allowing grant support to be directed toward the children we serve. Through this project, approximately 14 hospitalized children and their families will experience a personalized environment that provides positive distraction, promotes emotional well-being, and creates moments of normalcy during an otherwise difficult hospital stay.<\/p>\n
