Designed to support youth before they enter high school, the program integrates academic support with intentional life-skills development, college and career preparation, and early workforce exposure to ensure participants are prepared for future success. The program will offer transportation to participants who qualify for the service.
Academic support is a core component of the program and includes daily homework assistance, individual and small-group tutoring, literacy and reading development, and reinforcement in math and science. These services are complemented by enrichment activities that focus on building practical skills essential for adolescence and beyond. Youth will participate in social-emotional learning, goal setting, communication skills, time management, teamwork, and leadership development—skills that directly support success in middle school, high school, and postsecondary pathways.
The program places a strong emphasis on high school and college readiness by introducing young teens to academic expectations, personal responsibility, self-advocacy, and early exposure to college and career pathways. Participants will engage in job-readiness activities, including professionalism, “dressing for success,” workplace behavior, and basic financial literacy. Through the program’s entrepreneurship component, older youth will have opportunities to explore business concepts, develop creative ideas, and gain hands-on experience through youth-led initiatives such as an arts-based entrepreneurship program, including T-shirt design and sales. Teens interested in caregiving careers will also have the opportunity to build foundational workforce skills through babysitting and childcare training, supporting early certification pathways and practical employment experience.
Creative expression and innovation are further supported through art education and creative arts programming, which reinforce entrepreneurship, problem-solving, and self-confidence. Additional enrichment includes gardening and introductory agriculture, STEM exposure, movement and fitness activities, and team-building exercises that encourage collaboration and healthy lifestyles.
To address basic needs, the program will provide daily snacks and meals, helping to reduce food insecurity and support focus and engagement during program hours. Positive behavior reinforcement strategies will be implemented to foster accountability, respect, and personal growth. Families will also receive support through parenting resources, referrals to local partners, and guidance in navigating behavioral needs, IEPs, and school communication.
During its launch year, Helping Others Achieve will serve an initial cohort of 10 students, prioritizing youth from low- to moderate-income households, single-parent families working extended hours, and children with academic delays, behavioral or attention challenges, or limited access to other afterschool programs. Programming will take place at accessible community-based locations such as McGirt Horton Library, Peeler Recreation Center, and the Renaissance Event Space in East Greensboro, while the organization builds strategic partnerships to strengthen tutoring, enrichment instruction, and health and wellness support.
The program will be led by an experienced Program Operations Lead, supported by volunteer tutors, academic mentors, and program assistants as funding allows. All staff and volunteers will complete required background checks to ensure a safe, nurturing, and high-quality environment for program participants.

Total Project Budget: $50,000

Other Funding
Sources For The Project (Committed & Potential): $10,000

Project Duration: August 2026-May 2027
Geographical Area Served: Guilford County NC
Age Group To Be Served: Ages 6 through 14

Contact Information

Contact Prefix (Mr,Mrs etc.): Mrs.
Contact First Name: Wanda
Contact Last Name: Hobson
Contact Title: Executive Director
Contact Phone: 336-253-6029
Contact Email: helpingothersachieveorg@gmail.com

Hermanowski Family Foundation Initial Request Form Organization Name: Helping Others Achieve Legal Name (if Different): Also Known As: Mailing Address: 2905 Holmes Rd City: Greensboro State: NC Postal Code: 27405 Main Phone: 336-253-6029 Main Fax: Organization Website: https://helpingothersachieve.org/ Employer ID Number: 87-4824628 Organization Tax Status: 501 c 3 Proposal Information Today’s Date: 06/15/2026 Requested Amount: […]

[3

post-10871","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-grants
["GET
