YPS mothers receive specialized support to better care for their new families, including virtual and in-person counseling and economic mobility coaching, provided in English, Spanish, and Portuguese, in 19 communities in Greater Boston. We reach families who struggle with issues that impact the development of their young children, including mental illness, domestic violence, trauma, homelessness, and language and education barriers. The program focuses on reducing risk for child abuse and neglect and enhancing parenting skills and parent-infant attachment relationships through intensive and specialized case management, aligning with each family’s unique strengths and challenges. We offer comprehensive interventions, including home visiting, support services, and parenting groups, to help young parents learn strategies for understanding and responding to their child’s needs, strengthening the parent-child relationship, and promoting their children’s development. Families can access wraparound supports, including a clothing pantry, a food pantry, and diaper distribution.

The following goals have been established for the Young Parent Support program[AD1.1]:
-No families will have founded cases of child abuse and neglect after enrolling in young parent support services.
-90% of young parents will demonstrate progress toward goals related to family stability, financial security, education, or job training.
-85% of parents will report they are more responsive to their children’s needs as a result of enrolling in the program.
-100% of parents enrolling in the program will be screened for depression and referred to a behavioral health provider as needed.
-At least 50% of parents report an increase in understanding their children’s development as a result of using ASQ report and tipsheets.

Total Project Budget: 309617

Other Funding
Sources For The Project (Committed & Potential): Department of Children and Families ($238,872 received); Alden Trust ($20,000 received); Llewellyn Foundation ($15,000 received); TD Charitable Foundation ($20,000 requested); Metrowest Women’s Fund ($10,000 requested); Cambridge Savings Charitable Foundation ($5,000 pending); Salem Five Charitable Foundation ($5,000 pending)

Project Duration: Program runs year-round.
