Trauma-informed trained staff respond to individual needs with sensitivity, promoting each learner’s overall physical, emotional, social, and spiritual well-being. Programs include the USM Children’s Program, the USM Scholars Program, and English classes.
Funding will support tutoring and academic assistance, enrichment activities such as learning through play, back-to-school support, and family engagement and holiday events. Funds will also help cover general operating expenses, including Education Outreach staff salaries. Our staff members provide age-appropriate programming as individual support and in group settings to ensure consistent, high-quality care.
The USM Children’s Program serves approximately 300 children annually from diverse backgrounds, many of whom have experienced trauma related to relocation, homelessness, violence, neglect, or poverty. Our programs address those challenges by expanding access to educational and enrichment opportunities, building resilience, and supporting healthy development. Support from The Charles and Joan Hermanowski Family Foundation will directly support the individuals in the Education Outreach Program by providing funds for staff salaries and resources necessary to sustain these essential educational services to those we serve.

Total Project Budget: $175,000.00

Other Funding
Sources For The Project (Committed & Potential): The Thomases Family Endowment; W&H Bender Memorial Fund; CFMV; PNC; Walmart Foundation; fundraising events, donors, community partners

Project Duration: This project will run the entire course of the year 2026-2027 and beyond.
Geographical Area Served: Northeast Ohio
Age Group To Be Served: The USM Education Outreach Program serves children and young adults from birth through age 21, providing comprehensive support that promotes stability, educational success, and future planning. Program staff work closely with parents and caregivers to strengthen stability at home while also serving as advocates for students within their schools and other supportive environments. As students enter their teen and young adult years, staff provide individualized guidance to help them explore their future goals. Participants engage in career exploration, job shadow opportunities, and research post-secondary education, including college visits and program planning. After graduating from high school and selecting a post-secondary pathway, students may transition into the Scholars Program. This program provides continued guidance and support throughout the duration of their degree, helping students persist in their education and successfully complete their chosen program which in turn leads to securing stable employment and long term self sufficiency.

Contact Information

Contact Prefix (Mr,Mrs etc.):
Contact First Name: Marianne
Contact Last Name: Brdek
Contact Title: Administrative/Development Assistant
Contact Phone: 330-793-0434 ext. 377
Contact Email: mbrdek@ursulinesistersmission.org

Hermanowski Family Foundation Initial Request Form Organization Name: Ursuline Sisters Mission Legal Name (if Different): Also Known As: Mailing Address: 4280 Shields Rd.
