CCTA is dedicated to making these experiences available and accessible to as many members of the community as possible with an emphasis on teaching and nurturing our children regardless of gender, race, religion, ability, age, or socioeconomic status.
To help us achieve this mission we offer three programs for students with disabilities free of charge. Our Brightlights on Broadway sessions work with students ages 6-16, Broadway Connections works with specific high school special education programs, and our New Horizons works with students over 16. Our staff uses musical theatre as a vehicle for students to work on social skills, improve communication, and build community. Our lead instructor for this is also a licensed occupational therapist. She blends her theatre experience with research based practices to create the best environment for our students to succeed.
This program has been operating for more than 10 years. It attracts more than 50 students each season, many of whom return year after year. One parent shared, “our daughter has Down Syndrome…the students in the program benefit from her [the teacher’s] background in occupational therapy and I have seen my daughter’s speech and confidence improve.” Keeping these programs operating comes out to just under $40,000 each year. We are working to diversify our funding sources, so that we can continue to offer these programs free of charge to our community.

Total Project Budget: $38,115.75

Other Funding
Sources For The Project (Committed & Potential): Maryland State Arts Council – $4,000 (pending) Nora Roberts Foundation – $5,000 (pending) Robert L.
