We have always felt God was calling us to act upon the large and growing number of homeless in our city. As a foster family, we already saw the pain, fear, and starvation that some children we fostered had experienced – experiences quite similar to those endured by many homeless in Greenville. Originally, Bright Lights Greenville started as merely a method through which we hoped to brighten the day of the homeless. We began by giving out a small, care package containing food, cleaning necessities, and toiletries, along with a motivational Bible verse to let them know that they are loved in times of stress and doubt. We kept these little bags in the front seat of our car to hand out to any homeless person we drove by in our area.
For years we continued to hand out our care packages. However, due to COVID, we really began to feel God calling us to do more. Since the summer of 2020, Bright Lights Greenville has blossomed and grown. We have partnered with Triune Mercy Center to package about 50 hygiene care packages each month. These hygiene kits are now complete with shampoo, conditioner, razor, lotion, deodorant, washcloth, soap, toothpaste, toothbrush, and a motivational Bible verse. We buy, package, and bring the hygiene bags on the first Sunday of each month to Triune Mercy Center where they are distributed to the homeless.

Currently, we only have the means to produce 50 hygiene kits each month. My siblings and I pool the money that we make through our various jobs: pet sitting, lifeguarding, and being a referee for local soccer games. Our parents pitch in and provide the rest of the funds to create our monthly 50 kits. However, if we should be granted $1,000, we would use this money to produce more hygiene kits. We believe we would be able to produce 100 kits each month with the Hermanowski Foundation grant. This way our kits will be able to reach many more homeless!
Throughout my entire life, my parents have always told us that my siblings and I are beyond blessed. Through Bright Lights Greenville, we have been able to witness how blessed we truly are. It gives us joy to see all of the people standing outside Triune Mercy Center every month, waiting for the hygiene kits that we provide. When we see the smiles of gratitude on their faces, we see Christ reflected in their eyes. Bright Lights Greenville is meant to be a bright light in someone’s day, and we believe that our kits are making a difference in the lives of the homeless here in Greenville.

Total Project Budget: $1,000

Other Funding
Sources For The Project (Committed & Potential): other grants, grassroots donations, local sponsors

Project Duration: indefinite (hopefully forever!)
Geographical Area Served: Greenville, South Carolina
Age Group To Be Served: all ages

Contact Information

Contact Prefix (Mr,Mrs etc.): Mr.
Contact First Name: Connor
Contact Last Name: Farrell
Contact Title: Director
Contact Phone: 8643544550
Contact Email: cfarrell2024@sjcatholicschool.org

Hermanowski Family Foundation Initial Request Form Organization Name: Bright Lights Greenville Legal Name (if Different): Also Known As: Bright Lights GVL Mailing Address: 1 Charleston Oak Ln City: Greenville State: SC Postal Code: 29615 Main Phone: 8643544550 Main Fax: Organization Website: www.brightlightsgreenville.com Employer ID Number: 87-3190838.
