With few public or private schools providing formal strings instruction, this program ensures that children who aspire to play violin, viola, cello, or bass have access to high-quality, affordable music education close to home.

Led by professional symphony musicians and certified educators, students receive weekly group lessons that develop musical literacy, ensemble awareness, and performance confidence. The curriculum emphasizes skill-building and creative expression while nurturing qualities like focus, teamwork, and discipline—all aligned with North Carolina’s arts education standards.

To ensure inclusivity, After School Strings provides instruments, learning materials, and scholarships for families with financial need. Students also have opportunities to perform in local recitals and Symphony events, connecting with professional mentors and experiencing the joy of sharing music with their community.

Since its inception, the program has become a cornerstone of the Salisbury Symphony’s educational mission, reaching dozens of students each semester and inspiring a new generation of young musicians. In a region without school-based string programs, After School Strings represents not only a pathway to musical growth, but a vital investment in the cultural vibrancy and future of our community.

Total Project Budget: $22,000

Other Funding
Sources For The Project (Committed & Potential): Local foundation support (committed), individual contributed support (committed), state arts council funding (requested), corporate sponsorships (requested)

Project Duration: September 2026-May 2027
Geographical Area Served: Rowan County, Piedmont Region, North Carolina
Age Group To Be Served: 8-18

Contact Information

Contact Prefix (Mr,Mrs etc.): Mr.
Contact First Name: Peter
Contact Last Name: Ferretti
Contact Title: Executive Director, Salisbury Symphony Orchestra
Contact Phone: 704 216 1513
Contact Email: director@salisburysymphony.org

Hermanowski Family Foundation Initial Request Form Organization Name: Salisbury Symphony Legal Name (if Different): Salisbury Symphony, Inc.
